Michelle Hickey
Fairleigh Dickinson University Major: Graphic Design
Favorite Way to Defeat Trash: My favorite way to defeat trash on campus is to make a game out of it. No matter the waste, it can always be used as something you can throw. Therefore, the object of the game is to MAKE the basket. It can be freestyle throws done by one person or a team effort. This way, defeating trash is fun and environmentally friendly – even if the game is competitive. |

Favorite Way to Defeat Trash: When it comes to defeating trash on campus, recycling is a habit. Also when walking to and from classes, if I see any trash on the ground whether it is an empty bottle or a piece of paper I pick it up and either throw it in the garbage or the recycling. |

William Paterson University Major: Graphic Design
Favorite Way to Defeat Trash: I have been encouraged to take control over my impact of the environment through my family and years of involvement with The Girl Scouts of America. In an attempt to manage my own impact on the environment, one of the steps I take to minimize trash on campus is to carry a reusable water bottle that I can refill throughout the day at the school's many water fountains, instead of purchasing or disposing of plastic bottles on campus. Carrying a reusable water bottle is helpful in the sense that I can refill the bottle an infinite amount of times with any number of beverages, and also takes hundreds of glass and plastic bottles out of the equation that I would otherwise be purchasing throughout the semester. It's easy, convenient, and something everyone can do to minimize trash. |

Olivia Greco
Monmouth University Major: Graphic Design
Favorite Way to Defeat Trash: I encourage others to waste less, reuse more, and think before throwing anything away. Recycling is only half of the battle against trash; making simple changes like carrying a reusable, non-plastic water bottle or bringing reusable bags to the grocery store are easy ways to reduce waste altogether. Each day I try to take the initiative to lead a low-impact lifestyle, and to encourage others to do so as well. |

Daniel Heidt
Pratt Institute Major: Graphic Design
Favorite Way to Defeat Trash: My favorite way of defeating trash in general is the reduction. In my research I found out that recycling is pretty complicated, expensive and somewhat inefficient. Downgrading would be the better word for most of the so-called recycling. Reuse is nice and I like the creative aspect of it but in the end it's not defeating the production of trash, it's just "converting" for me. The problem of trash is that people need low-cost solution; they're lazy and they need an incentive. Knowledge + attitude + intention = conscience for environment. So my conceptual steps for my poster were to accomplish environmental knowledge, then to accomplish attitude, generate intention, give samples, and encourage interaction. To reduce the "fountain" of the production of trash is the most efficient way for me. If you reduce the trash you automatically reduce the need for recycling and reuse. |

Major: Accounting
Favorite Way to Defeat Trash: · One way to beat trash and combat waste is by doing my part to NOT throw trash on the roads but instead dispose of it in nearby trash cans. I also visit recycling centers in my town and deposit everything that is recyclable. |
