Can you guess what's the most recycled material in North America?

Believe it or not, more of this material is recycled every year than paper, aluminum, plastic and glass combined! With a recycling rate of 92%, its... STEEL!

Although steel is North America's most recycled material, we should keep up the good work. Progress can still be made! "Common household items that can be recycled include steel cans, packaging, appliances, cars and scrap metal." To learn more about steel recycling, visit the Steel Recycling Database, or to view the whole article from Earth911, click here.

What started as only an idea for a community project, turned into full-on orchestra- made out of trash! Luis Szaran, director of Sonidos de la tierra, wanted to teach young people to play instruments. "This is going to be free, I want the poorest children to take part in this."

However, once he began, he soon realized there was not nearly enough instruments for all the children interested. That's when he began looking to other options. While seeking how to build the instruments, it occurred to him and others to them to build them out of trash. Watch this inspirational video from Paraguay, South America to how how people lives are changed, one instrument at a time.

"Building these instruments with garbage, we make music out of this. And to refine them to a level in which these instruments constantly sound good has been a process that has also taught the kids that things in life don't always happen immediately, that things don't just happen over night."
