There has been a lot of talk throughout the years about reducing food waste. So, people in Europe finally decided to do something about it! This past January the European Parliament adopted a resolution to cut food waste by 50 percent by 2020. The European Parliament has labeled reducing food wastage "a matter of urgency."
What has the United States government decided to do about food waste? Very little... But, we must give credit to the EPA, whom directs the Food Recovery Challenge, and the USDA collects information about food losses at the retail and consumer levels, and there may be more- but that's still not nearly enough! According to NRDC's national report, "about 40% of food in this country goes uneaten."

These posters clearly show there was a point when we used to care about wasting food.
